In preparing for this week’s newsletter, I thought it would be interesting to learn some facts about one of my favorite dishes…fish & chips!
Fish & Chips as a meal originated in London around 1860
It is said to be one of the few foods that weren’t rationed during World War II and became a cheap option for many in Europe
Fish & Chips were originally served wrapped in newspaper until the ink from the paper started transferring to the food, so they moved to a safer approach…talk about trying to be food-responsible!
If you like the crunch of the breading, the flakiness of the fish and a tangy sauce, you will love our Guinness Beer Battered Fish. If you have kiddos who claim, “I don’t like fish,” I beg you to give this a shot. It is such a great spin on fish and your family will not be talking about how “fishy” it smells in the house.
You may wish to use a large stock pot for the oil so you can get that fish nice and crispy. Check out our stock pot reviews to make sure you get the right one for you.

Choosing the best knife for the job is something I’ve always struggled with given I am a self-trained home chef.
In the past, I would reach for any knife that was close and categorized our home kitchen knives into two buckets:
Butter knives
“Sharp” knives
But that is my old way of thinking now that I’ve invested in some good knives that have taken my home chef cooking to another level. The serrated knife is a key addition to your drawer and we walk through options in one of our latest reviews.
This knife is great to use for cutting breads, various types of meat, and delicate fruits like tomato or peaches.
Responsibility
We are often asked to define “organic” and the main differences between organic and other non-organic foods.
The easiest way to understand organic is to focus on foods that are free from man-made chemicals. So yes, anything you grow in your own garden without man-made chemicals is 100% organic. You don’t have to only buy your organic foods from your local grocery store!
Check out more about organic foods in our food responsibility article that decodes this food mystery.

Chewy cookies vs. Crispy cookies…that was the question!
Our Foodness Followers have spoken and in a resounding win with 67% of the vote, Chewy cookies are the victor!

“Most of my cookie recipes are for soft and chewy cookies. HOWEVER, there are some which just have to be crispy--like chocolate lace cookies. So, I guess that I am an equal-opportunity cookie addict!”
