I have a challenge this week for all of our Foodness Followers!
Find a great place in your area to have a picnic. Do people even have picnics anymore? I’m not sure that they do all that often, but that’s why this is a challenge!
If you’re young and nimble, you could do the picnic with a blanket and sit on the ground. However, if you’re, um, experienced (that’s a great word for it) and a little less flexible, you can do your picnic on a picnic table.
No matter how you carry out your picnic challenge…these Strawberry Rhubarb Bars are a perfect fit for your picnic. The light crust, tangy strawberry and crumble topping (my sister-in-law and I were just asking ourselves, “Who doesn’t love a crumble topping?!?!”) are perfect for eating outside and enjoying lovely May weather alone, with friends or with your kiddos.
Give it a shot. Email me a picture and I might just post some in an upcoming newsletter if you are willing to share!
Remember to look for clever ingredient swaps and FAQs on more and more recipes every week!

Anyone remember using grandma’s hand mixer or even remember seeing it for the first time?
I remember my grandma telling me to get her hand mixer as we were making a dessert together. It was white, clearly had been used a couple thousand times, and it had a white cord. Well, it should have had a white cord, but it now was tinted in a yellowish brown color and it wasn’t the most appetizing piece of kitchen equipment.
If yours is starting to look like my grandma’s hand mixer, it may be time for an upgrade. The technology continues to advance and they actually come in other colors now too (like this one in candy apple red)!
Check out our hand mixer buying guide and see for yourself!
Responsibility
None of my children have a food allergy, so it rarely crosses my mind. My nephew has a peanut allergy and I imagine it is something they think about on a daily basis. They even have a special bag they need to carry in case a reaction occurs so they can provide a shot to him.
For those that live with food allergies, peanuts or otherwise, it is a daily task to ensure you keep yourself and others safe.
There are many tactics we can apply to our home cooking to protect others with food allergies. Check out some of these strategies that we highlight in our Food Responsibility article on food allergies.

Last week we asked for you to vote on your favorite caffeinated beverage…
Tea (Iced or Hot) vs Coffee
With 68% of the vote, the winner was coffee!

However, we had some great quotes and even some great gif recommendations from our Foodness Followers. Enjoy!
Nothing more refreshing than a tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer day!
Tea is horrible. Absolute garbage water. Don’t know why you all do that.
