Poll Results - Cilantro…Love it or Hate it?
This week’s poll results were both surprising and educational. Not only do our Foodness Followers vote passionately in our weekly polls, but they also share fascinating food facts (I just can’t help bringing in the letter F wherever possible)!
This was a close one each step of the way with 55% of responses loving cilantro and 45% preferring it in moderation (or hating it).

The most interesting comment from the poll referenced a study where some people have a gene that makes cilantro taste like soap! I had no idea, but definitely check it out. Cilantro and soap…who knew?
Several months back I read an article referring to scientific/genetic work relative to this topic. It seems that this entire matter is gene-related. If you inherited the “cilantro tastes like soap” gene, then you’re never going to acquire a like for cilantro…How about that?!
Recipes
Tackling fresh bread at home may sound overwhelming, but trust me it isn’t. Especially when the end result is something as delicious as this Homemade Mediterranean Olive Bread.
We played with this recipe a bit and had one of our followers tell us that it is sooooo much better using a dutch oven. That led us to go back to the original recipe.
If you don’t have a dutch oven, this budget option is one of our favorites. The dutch oven is a great tool to have in your kitchen arsenal!
Remember to look for clever ingredient swaps and FAQs on more and more recipes every week!
Reviews
While we’re talking about making amazing fresh bread at home in a dutch oven, let’s first talk about dutch ovens and why you need one.
What can I do with a dutch oven? Well, A LOT!
Stews/soups
Sauces
Vegetables
Brown various meats
Bake bread
So much more!
A dutch oven is unique because they are heavy with very thick walls and a lid that seals tightly to allow for a very unique cooking process.
Check out our dutch oven reviews and start cooking in a totally new way at home.
Responsibility
Rounding out a newsletter that is full of baking leads us to ask ourselves: How can we bake more responsibly as a home chef?
We highlighted our article on Responsible Baking in a previous newsletter, but it’s full of so many helpful tips that I wanted to pull out a couple that you can easily implement into your baking routine.
Try eliminating the use of parchment paper in favor of silicone baking sheets. They are very easy to clean and will end up far cheaper in the long run.
Try a silicone muffin pan and silicone muffin cups for your next set of muffins or cupcakes. I literally just used this over the weekend for my daughter’s sleepover and they loved pushing from the bottom of the silicone muffin pan to get their muffin out easily and with no fuss.
It is small changes that can ultimately make a big difference. The best part is you might just find you love these new baking tools more than the old ones…AND you are making your positive mark on the environment.
Foodness Fun
Baking is the topic of the day, so let’s have some fun with a baking poll.
The word “baking” can mean so many things to different people. For some it’s all about the sugary sweets like cookies, brownies, cakes and pastries. For others it’s bread, biscuits and other savory side dishes.
When you think baking...do you think sweet or savory? |
